Just Say No to a Cup 'o Joe

I looked over at Tim as he slide my coffee cup across the table towards him. His eyes were wide open and he had a look of bewilderment on his face. I realized I had just talked for at least 15 minutes without taking a breath or giving him a chance to get a word in edge wise. Wow.

my body + coffee (caffeinated) = hyperactivity & gibberish

I rarely ever drink coffee. I may have an occasional cup on Sunday mornings when Tim is home since he drinks it like it's going out of style. By the time we were eating lunch at Atlanta Bread Company I started to crash. My hands were shaking and I had a headache. All I drank this morning was around 2/3 of a cup. From now on I'll be sticking to my usual water and let's just say it was a lesson learned!

Ian & Jenna: Married

Ian & Jenna were married at Mt. Zion Baptist Church here in Columbus, GA. The ceremony was absolutely beautiful and emotional. I must admit I teared up a few times! Jenna was a breathtaking bride and as sweet as could be. Ian could not take his eyes off of her from the moment they had their "first look." I was so happy Jenna and Ian opted to see each other before the ceremony allowing plenty of time for relaxed portraits of the couple alone on their wedding day.

**Brides - I highly recommend seeing your groom prior to the ceremony. You both will feel less nervous and the added benefit to your wedding day photos is worth it alone! All "formal" photos will be out of the way, allowing you to arrive at the reception at the same time as your guests!

I decided to process the next photo a little differently than normal, and I love it!

The groomsmen had us laughing all day long. Check out their shades!

I love this next sequence! Jenna sneaking up on Ian and then the emotion of seeing each other for the first time on their wedding day.

My favorite of the day!

I loved the bridesmaid's dresses and how the color of their sashes coordinated with the groomsmen's socks and boutonnieres!

I could not choose a favorite ring shot. Seriously could not. :)

Their parents surrounded them and lifted them up in prayer after the candle lighting. It was so moving to see God's love around this family.

Their reception was held at National Civil War Naval Museum also in Columbus. Jenna chose hot pink and black decor, with colorful centerpieces that had little lights in the flower vases. Everything turned out beautifully! No detail was overlooked. Even the hershey kisses had sticker photos of the couple on the bottom of them!

What a Bad Blogger I Have Been...

I've been a bad blogger for the past few weeks! I've had back-to-back family and friends visiting from Virginia, vacations, and the back side work of my business keeping me tied up. It's been relaxing and exhausting all at the same time! Lately I've been working on dreaded taxes, emailing/meeting with/calling clients, organizing files, brainstorming for my re-branding, designing sample albums, reading photography books, etc. Generally everything that goes into a photography business, but isn't necessarily noticed. I have also been shooting and have lots to blog, so I'll be playing catch up with you guys over the next few days. :) Stayed tuned, because I also have so many new ideas to reveal!

In other news, how about the Olympics!? Wow...Go USA! Last night Tim and I stayed up later than normally rooting on our women's gymnastics, and men's swim team. The gymnasts had us cheering, yelling, and jumping off of the couch. A very commendable silver medal was earned, considering they were in bronze standing days prior and thought they had no shot for the gold. China did an amazing job, and we couldn't get over Bela Karolyi's comments on their age. I, myself thought a few looked younger than the required 16 years of age. Either way, they were almost flawless and deservedly won. Michael Phelps is in a league of his own. He has earned 11 gold medals thus far in his career and broken world records left and right! He now has more career olympic golds than any other person. I could not believe how fast he cut through the water, and even racing some events with less than an hour between them. He is no doubt an incredible athlete. If you have yet to watch the Olympics, go turn on your television. History is being made here people! :)

Pawsitively Famous

Just a few hours after I posted my photos from the Miranda Lambert concert, I received an email from Jessica M. who is with a small team of Miranda's fans that run a group called Pawsitively Famous. They solicit donations for the Humane Society of East Texas which is Miranda's favorite charity. She loved my shots and wanted to use them (with credit and permission) on their Myspace page and forum. I of course agreed for such an awesome charity! I have two dogs myself so I love charities that help animals. :)

Fort Benning Concert

Fort Benning MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation) hosted a soldier and family appreciation day this past weekend with free food, games, giveaways, and concerts. When Tim told me the line-up I had to go! Miranda Lambert, who is one of my favorite country singers, was the headliner. I last saw her in concert in July 2006 at the Grey, Tennessee fair. I thought she was an awesome performer then, but she's so much better now! She put on an amazing show, even throwing her pink guitar (with someone off-stage catching it of course!) and then slung her microphone stand across the stage. Eve 6 and Kimberley Locke
(American Idol Season 2 finalist) also performed. Eve 6 really knew how to pump up the crowd and Kimberly had an amazing voice!

This is Megan and me with a cowboy on stilts. I went up to him and poked him in the leg to ask him to take a photo with us. He called me out on it saying "Did you just poke me in the leg??" It was really funny hence the big smiles on our faces and the guy in the background laughing! Tim took this one by the way.

Whirlwind Family Visits!

Tim and I had a great time entertaining family, but it's not over yet. We now have friends coming down for a visit. Can you tell we love company? :)

When we went to Six Flags the first time, we purchased 6 extra visits for $10 each. We couldn't pass up that deal! Aaron and Megan joined us this time and we had so much fun! It was so hot that after we got soaked on the water rides, we were completely dry within an hour.

And here we are a the most "rinky dink" little BBQ restaurant near where we live. From the outside it doesn't look like much, but they make some of the best bbq around here. The center photo is of my Dad & stepmom Renia, Aaron & Megan, and Tim & me.

I also shot Aaron & Megan's engagement pictures, and I cannot wait to share them with you guys!

This sticker brings back so many memories for me. I remember my Mom sticking him on everything from bleach to 409, you name it. He was a symbol of "Don't touch this Lisette - it's yucky!"

Well yucky is exactly how I feel. :( I have been sick the past three days, and well, it's not been fun! I haven't been sick like this since my junior year in college (2004) when I couldn't make it through Statistics class without leaving to go to the student health center. I rarely get sick. I mean I have little colds every now and then, but I am one of those people who washes her hands constantly (okay....excessively) to keep from it. So I'm not sure what happened. But I've been rolled up on the couch watching chick flicks, downing medicine, and having my awesome husband take care of me. I don't know what I'd do without him!

I have family in to visit all this week, and I hope that I don't pass my "yuckiness" onto them. I may be a little slow on blogging this week while they're here, but I will let you know that I have 3 more weddings to post and an engagement session coming up. I'm super excited about it! Even through being sick, I've got to stay positive. :)

Phillip & Autumn: Married

Autumn and Phillip were married at the Lookout Mountain Fairyland Club a few weeks ago in one of the most beautiful ceremonies I've ever seen. It truly was a fairy-tale wedding. This was also my first military wedding, so it really meant a lot to me to be able to photograph it. Phillip commissioned into the Army when he graduated from West Point this year and I was so glad he decided to wear his uniform! We'll let his choice of military schools slide....my husband is a VMI grad. :) Autumn looked absolutely beautiful the entire day. You would never have known how hot & humid it was by looking at her. She was stunning! A huge thanks to Melody Hood of Innamorata Photography for asking me to second shoot with her! It was well worth the drive to Chattanooga! :)

I LOVE meeting other photographers! It's so great getting to know others who share the same passion and love for photography as you do. I was fortunate enough to meet some amazing individuals at an OSP get-together in Atlanta a few months ago. We all got together for lunch and bridal type sessions with a few models. It was more like the paparazzi on those girls! Everyone's style is so unique and it was great seeing different takes on the same shoot. Here's our group shot from the day:

Traffic & Business Cards

I just loooooove....Atlanta traffic!!!! Oh yeah.....

Today I drove up to Snellville, GA (just north of Atlanta) to shoot a wedding with Ryan Gibson of LightScape Photography. It was an early ceremony that started at 12pm and the reception was over at 5pm. So I load up my gear and my GPS (her name is Eulene!) tells me that I'll arrive home at 7:15pm. Wrong Eulene...you were wrong. I pulled in the garage at 8:45pm. That's right y'all, I sat in stop and go Atlanta traffic for an hour and a half. Bummer! However on a positive note (I promise I'm not crazy and I can't believe I'm going to type this....) I gave away a business card in that traffic. Oh yes, always advertising! Here's how: I'm stuck in this traffic and I look over to the car next to me and I see a beautiful girl driving and I see a gorgeous engagement ring. I thought to myself... "I should give her my business card!" Well I end up passing her and she's a little ways behind me. Once she caught back up to me I rolled down my window and waved until she noticed me and then motioned for her to roll down her window. She had to think I was crazy, but heck I look friendly and not like some freak (or at least I hope!). Anyways, conversation goes like this:

Me: "Are you engaged??"
Her: "Yes......."
Me: "Do you have a wedding photographer yet?"
Her: laughing! "No."

....and then I told her that I was a wedding photographer and that I saw her beautiful ring and wanted to give her my card. So she pulls as close to me as she can and then I crawl across my car to give it to her. Meanwhile we are still in traffic mind you. I mean I just couldn't let sitting in Atlanta traffic go to waste!

Sooooo if you are the bride-to-be from the interstate and you are reading this....I'd love to shoot your wedding! :)

Jennifer & Eric: Married

Jennifer and Eric were married in a beautiful lake side ceremony at Stone Mountain Park in Georgia. Jennifer was one of the most beautiful brides I have ever photographed. The love she and Eric share was clearly evident and they were so incredibly sweet together. In fact, these two have been dating since middle school! Their families were very welcoming and so close among each other. The reception was a celebration until 1 am with dancing and laughter. A mariachi band started off the dancing and then Alicia of Alicia y Rumba Brava kept the party going. And let me tell you....they could all dance...everyone. I was in awe while taking pictures on the dance floor! Now me on the other hand...I have two left feet. :)

After the ceremony a ladybug landed on Eric's tuxedo. Jennifer tried to make it fly away and then it landed on her. This was her reaction when someone told her that ladybugs bring good luck. :)

Emma (Lauren's assistant and friend), me, and Lauren after lunch and before we started shooting! It's the only one we got and Emma's eyes are closed. It was super bright out!

I just love this! One of the bridesmaids caught us in action with her p&s while we were photographing the bride.

**By the way, I don't normally shoot in flip flops. I had on my closed-toed shoes and it was way too hot for them. So I ran out and bought a cheap pair so I wouldn't pass out from heat exhaustion!

Hannah: Portraits in B&W

Yesterday I went over to my friends Kara and Brandon's house for a mini-session with their newborn Hannah. The weather was turning into one of those storms we've been experiencing so many of in the South lately, so we kept inside. We'll have to get some outdoor photos next time! Hannah is sweet and tiny and being around a baby that little makes my biological clock start ticking. Oh man... However Tim and I are no where near ready for one of our own yet. Until then we get our baby fixes from my niece Adryana and these two adorable kids below. :)

And of course I couldn't leave out Joseph. This little man is going to be a heartbreaker!

I love my new flat red shoes...but unfortunately they don't love me! :( First, let me tell you that I got these babies last week for $15 (discounted from $80)...woot woot! I purchased them to wear to weddings since I dress in all black and just need some color somewhere in my wardrobe. I decided to wear them to a wedding I shot with Melody Hood from Innamorta Photography (she is awesome!) this past weekend. Let's just say I'm glad I brought my regular black flats! I've got blisters on both feet and one is pretty bad. I've got to learn to break shoes in before working on my feet for 8+ hours in them. Yeah I made it maybe 2 hours before I changed! Lesson learned. :)

Happy 4th of July everyone! Have fun, be safe, and remember our troops who are still overseas fighting for our freedom! One of my husband's roommates from VMI just returned home a few weeks ago. Welcome home Mike!!! I know Christina is happy to have you home for the 4th this year! :)

We're celebrating by having a cookout with friends and then possibly attending the Thunder on the Hooch! The Chattahoochee River that is...can't you tell we live in the deep South just from the name of that? :) It's an annual festival held on the river and this will be our first time attending. I love summer!

Oh how I wish I could dance like this!!! This has been my favorite dance of the season so far from the episodes I've watched of So You Think You Can Dance? It's about a work-a-holic and his significant other not wanting him to leave. It is just pure emotion and I couldn't look away while watching it. I seriously tear up when he "steals her heart." Chelsie and Mark did awesome this week too! I also loved Katee and Josh and if I can find a video of what they performed tonight I will post it! What do you all think?

Forget.Me.Not

My aunt Robin Mullins is an amazingly artistic soul. She is the owner of Forget.Me.Not (an eclectic boutique in Abingdon, Virginia), a talented actress (she has performed multiple roles at the Barter Theatre, had parts in Nell, Cold Mountain, and the 2009 release The Secret Life of Bees to name a few), and a beautiful painter. When she asked me to take photos of her boutique for her soon-to-be announced website, I was thrilled! Thank Heaven for Little Girls

I love this kid. She has changed me so much since she came into this world three short years ago. When I'm around her I see good in the world. I see God's love. Even through her "terrible twos" she is still the most loving child. I want her to grow up to be happy, healthy, and never suffer a broken heart. I want her to be successful and fulfill her dreams. I want to protect her so that she only knows the good in this world. Isn't she beautiful? Happy Birthday (yesterday) Adryana!

Even if it's a little blurry, it's still one of my favorites!

**I made it back safely from my 7 hour trip home. 14 total hours alone in the car....sheesh! I won't be doing that again for a while thats for sure! I had a great time catching up with family and friends and visiting my hometown. I'll be back to posting more pictures very soon!

Six Flags over Georgia

Yesterday since Chris and Joyce came to visit us we all decided to take a trip up to Six Flags. I've never been to this theme park, so I was excited! I loooove rollercoasters! Tim and I had never rode one together in the almost 6 years we've known each other and he loves them too. Crazy huh? We all felt like big kids for the day. :) I tried to video one of the rollercoaster rides that didn't go upside down, but I must have pushed the button and stopped it while I was screaming for my life....haha Oh well! Pictures will do. :)

I circled me and Tim on the Acrophobia ride. It takes up up and then drops you 65mph in 3 seconds. Ummmm yeah.... :)

This one was fun too!

I've got a few weddings to blog and will have some pictures from my trip home next week for my niece's birthday. I may be a little slow on the blogging while I'm visiting Virginia, but I'll be back at it again after that I promise! :)

Meet Hannah!

She's finally here! Hannah was born yesterday evening and weighed in at 7lb 5oz. Kara called me to let me know she was having contractions that morning. Once they admitted her I picked Joseph up from daycare and was on babysitting duty until Mom and baby were settled in. Joseph wasn't quite sure what to think. He didn't understand where his mommy's belly went and just what in world little Hannah was. It was adorable to watch!

Isn't she just beautiful?!? I can't wait to photograph her! Congratulations Kara and Brandon on your little bundle of joy. :)

Megan & Daniel: Married

Megan and Daniel were married last Saturday at the Thompson House and Gardens in Bogart, Georgia. It was a beautifully hot day and the wedding turned out gorgeous! These two have known each other since middle school and it was obvious how deeply in love they are. This was my first outdoor ceremony and I absolutely loved it. Thanks again to Ryan from LightScape Photography for having me second shoot!

My Brother Proposed to His Girfriend!

Today my brother Aaron proposed to his girlfriend Megan! He called me last week right after he bought the ring to let me know what he had planned. Then he told me to keep my mouth zipped and that I could only tell Tim....what???? For those of you who know me, this was tough! I usually blurt out any big news as soon as I hear it. Needless to say I've been on edge this whole week talking with family, friends, and of course Megan. But I was a good sister and didn't say a peep until he had proposed. Then it was all over buddy. I think I've called a bajillion people to let them in on the good news! :) They have been dating for over three years now so Megan is already like a sister to me. The fact that she will officially be my sister-in-law next year is awesome! Congratulations you two - I love you both!

OSP Meetup: Atlanta

Last Friday I met up with a few of my fellow photographer friends from OSP to get to know each other a little better and of course - a photoshoot! We started with lunch at the Varsity, then shot at Piedmont Park and Little Five Points. I had a great time meeting new people who love to do what I do! :) Once I get the group picture I will post it up, but for now here are a few of my favorites:

Liz and Bobby: Married

Liz and Bobby were married at the quaint and beautiful Canterbury United Methodist Chapel in Birmingham followed by a reception at the Botanical Gardens. Liz and Bobby's outgoing personalities made for a really fun day. I don't think I've ever laughed so much while shooting!

Bobby's personality really shined through. I like to think of this as "Yeah! I'm married!"......"Wait, how do I get this thing to come off?!" haha :)

I love traditions like this - Liz and her brothers have always taken a picture with the three of them holding her up. They requested this shot because it will be the last one of the series. Then of course, Bobby wanted to get in on the action too!

Kara: Maternity

When Kara asked me to shoot her maternity photos I was thrilled to say the least! She's on of my best "army wife" friends. We have been lucky enough to have our husbands stationed at the same bases - three times! We feel like we've all basically followed each other around from Georgia to Washington and then back to Georgia! It's awesome to have a friend who knows exactly what I'm going through with this sometimes crazy Army life. :)

Kara and Brandon have the most adorable little boy, Joseph, who was born with perfect timing. Kara was in labor when Brandon stepped off the plane for his 2 week R&R in November 2006. What luck!! :) Thankfully Brandon has been home for this whole pregnancy and they won't have to worry about him missing the birth of their baby girl Hannah. So here's a few of my favorites from my shoot with this awesome family (warning - image overload!! haha):

Memorial Day

Yesterday for Memorial Day Tim and I visited the Fort Mitchell National Cemetery here in Alabama. It amazed me the number of soldiers buried there and how it looks like Arlington National Cemetery.

I randomly chose headstones, but Tim noticed the Medal of Honor recipient.

While deployed to Iraq from June 2006-September 2007 my husbands unit (3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division) lost many great soldiers. I searched for a list of all the names, which I could not find. My husband was friends with some of the men who lost their lives while fighting for our freedom. I do not want to list their names without the others. However, I did find a photo of a memorial that was built in their honor (as well as those lost from the unit's 2004 deployment).

Please take a moment to remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. They were husbands and wives, sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, and friends. Each and every one will be greatly missed.

Claire & Brian: Married

Claire and Brian were married at Mountain Brook Community Church in Birmingham, AL in April. Their wedding was absolutely beautiful and I was so happy be be a part of it! Whew! We are back from Destin! Our trip went by way too fast, but it sure feels good to be home. I love coming home after being away. I love the way my house looks (thanks to cleaning it before leaving), the way sleeping in my own bed again feels, and seeing my little love bugs - my dogs that is! I'll be picking them up from the kennel tomorrow. :)

I checked Amanda's blog and found that she posted a few of the pictures she took of Tim and I in Destin this past weekend. They are ahhhhmazing!! We just love them. She did an awesome job and we all had so much fun! The rain cleared out for a bit and the sun peeked through slightly so we jumped at the chance to shoot. Afterwards we had dinner at P.F. Chang's. It was the first time Tim and I had ate there, but not the first for Amanda. The waiter accidentally dropped a cup with wasabi sauce when cleaning a table next to us and it flew up on all three of us. Amanda and I were lucky and didn't get hit with too much, but Tim took the brunt of it. I'm still trying to get the stain out of his jeans! Amanda got us a free piece of chocolate cake because of that and it was yummy!

Destin...continued

It's day five in Destin and we are having a blast! We got a little sun burned on our first day laying out, so we've been taking it easy the past two days from the sun. We actually bought a beach umbrella and just read all morning while listening to the ocean today. :) I love being near the ocean. When we retire, we want to live somewhere like this....with lots of sunblock of course!

We're here! but.....it's been raining!! However, despite the weather we are having fun and making the best of it! It down poured when we first arrived, then stopped long enough for us to trek down to the beach for a walk.

Unfortunately we weren't able have to to have our photo shoot with Amanda yesterday due to the rain, wind, and clouds. It is supposed to clear up tomorrow and be nice the rest of the week. We can't wait to work on our tans and read on the beach. We're just enjoying our time together and happy to be alive. :) With the sound and smell of the ocean, who cares if it's raining??

Tim and I decided that it was time for a much needed vacation. Destin, Florida is an old vacation staple for us, and it's not too far from home. We just love it there! Our last trip was in April 2006, two months before Tim deployed to Iraq for 15 months. This time it will be much more relaxing for us with no separation looming. :) We're actually staying in the same exact condo as last time - same one! Kinda neat huh?

Oh and my friend Amanda will be there for the first two days coincidentally so we planned a mini photo shoot for her to take of Tim and I....and for me to take of her! It will be too much fun and I can't wait to blog the images! :)

My New Baby Canon

Today I broke down and finally did it....it's something I've thought about doing for a while. I mean my relationship with the last one was becoming a huge pain. I needed more....soooo I bought a new point and shoot camera! Woot woot! :) Introducing the newest member of my Canon family:

Isn't she beautiful?! As many of my photographer friends know, it's hard to lug around your professional camera for everything you go to. Sometimes I just want a little one to throw in my purse and have for those random moments. My last point and shoot was bulky and just not working for me anymore. I'm LOVING the wide angle on this new one. It took a minute to get used to it when taking self portraits but its great for those group shots when everyone wants in the frame. :)

Columbus Air Show

Just for fun, here's a picture that I took at the Columbus Air Show a few weeks ago. Tim and I had so much fun, but we both got a sun burn in the process. Ouch! So not cool --- I've been keeping sunscreen on every time I've gone out since then. I forgot how hot that it gets down here in Georgia! ;)

...for the Grey's Anatomy season premiere tonight! I absolutely love this show. It's one of those t.v. dramas that has kept me hanging on ever since the first episode. I will admit that I lost track of it when Tim was deployed because (and I know he's not very big on admitting this!) it was our thing to do before he left. I just couldn't watch it without him. I'm all lovey-dovey weird like that and I know a lot of my girlfriends are the same way so it's okay. haha Needless to say I had to catch back up to speed with Grey's last fall. I'm excited to see what story lines they come up with this season, seriously! :)

Jennifer & Zachary: Married

Jennifer and Zach were married a few weeks ago with a beautiful ceremony at Flower Stems in Birmingham. Flower Stems also provided the gorgeous floral arrangments and amazing decor. Jennifer was a dream bride to work with and we all had so much fun! Her personality shines through in every image. She and Zach were incredibly sweet and I almost started crying myself during their first look.

Remember Virginia Tech

Today marks the first anniversary of the day that took 32 innocent lives and forever changed Virginia Tech. I graduated from VT in 2005 and my brother is currently a student there. I still remember finding out from the news what was happening as it unfolded and frantically calling my brother to make sure he was okay. Thank God he was and that no one we personally knew was injured. However, my heart still aches for those who lost their loved ones that morning.

Virginia Tech was an amazing college to attend and I have so many memories from my 4 years there. I never felt unsafe on campus and still do not even to this day. What an amazing community we have that extends across campus and to each and every alumni across the world. We Are Virginia Tech and those lives lost on 4.16.07 will never be forgotten.

Individuals memorials that have since been replaced with Hokie Stone memorials, Burruss Hall (with Norris Hall - where the second shootings occurred - to the right), and tents over memorials to be signed.

Miss Adryana

I L.O.V.E. this kid.

She is the sweetest, most adorable little girl in the entire world and she's my niece! I was going through some pictures today from my last visit home to Wise, Virginia in February. Oh - how I have missed this little face.

As many of you know, when Tim deployed to Iraq from June '06-September '07, I moved back home to be near family and friends. We were stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington at the time and being alone that far away from family for that long...well it just wasn't happening! My stepmom babysits Adryana a few days a week, so I got to spend so much time with her. I can't believe how much she's changed since Tim came home and I moved back away from her. It's so weird to me! While I love to see her grow and learn, I wish that I could have frozen time to when she was between 18-24 months old and kept her that way forever. :) She'll be turning 3 this June and I'm constantly told about how she needs a "little cousin" to play with. Haha! We'll have to see about that...she may be waiting a few more years. :)

Claire: Bridal

A little over a month ago Jessica invited me to shoot a bridal session with her. I was thrilled to say the least, and drove all the way to Birmingham for it. It was my first time working with her, and the location and bride could not have been more beautiful! We can now post these because her wedding was this past weekend. It was one of the most beautiful weddings I have attended and I cannot wait to show you all those images too!

Happy Birthday Murphy & Raven!...?

I live with two wild wildebeests who just happen to be celebrating their 3rd birthday today! You're probably wondering what the question mark is for in the title huh? My husband Tim and I got Murphy and Raven both in June 2005 while we were living Tacoma, WA. Murphy is a purebred scottish-terrier and he came with papers noting his birthdate. Raven however is a lab/golden retriever mix and she didn't have any papers. We were told that she was around 8 weeks old (same age as Murphy) when we took her home, so we celebrate their birthdays together! :)

I don't know what we would do without these little lovebugs. They drive us utterly insane one minute and melt our hearts the next. They're inseparable from each other and have been that way since we brought them home. It's funny that I originally wanted a small dog and my husband wanted a big one. Once we got to know their personalities, we pretty much switched. Raven is a true dog and she constantly wants attention. Murphy however is like a cat and does his own thing. We wouldn't have them any other way! Happy Birthday my little lovebugs!

(Raven looks so small in the picture below. She's really not that tiny (~65 lbs). It's just the angle I shot her at!)

Treats are the trick to getting them to look somewhat at the camera.

We're celebrating with cupcakes and a movie tonight. Don't worry the dogs are not getting any of this chocolate! They're getting special dog treats and some extra play time! :)

Laura: Portrait

I photographed Laura in Savannah a few weeks ago - actually right after I was done with my last bridal shoot there! Laura is a student at theVirginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg, VA. It's actually on the campus of Virginia Tech, where I graduated from undergrad. I instantly knew we'd get along knowing that she was a Hokie too! So what was she doing in Savannah? Laura is also an amateur figure competitor and was in town for the Iron Eagle Natural Bodybuilding & Figure Classic (Pro-Qualifier). She's intelligent and beautiful - sorry guys, she's also taken! Laura thanks for scheduling with me and for being so sweet. I had so much fun with your session!

Pay It Foward

I have been in search of a computer desk for quite sometime. While out shopping one day about a week ago I found the perfect one! It's not the color white like I originally wanted, but it's the exact style I have been searching for. So....I just had to get it! The only problem - I was driving my car and not my husbands truck. I figured the guys helping me and I could give it a go anyway. The desk slid right into my car but I could not close the truck. After standing there debating on if I should just have them upload it and come back with the truck the lady who had just gotten into the car next to me stepped out. She had heard the conversation, proceeded to open her truck and handed me a bungee cord to tie the trunk down. I was so touched by her kindness and thanked her a million times over.

It's amazing how such simple acts of kindness can make a person's day. Even little things like a thank you note that I received in the mail yesterday from a client make me all happy inside. I therefore am going to pay it forward at the next opportunity that crosses my path. What sort of small acts of kindness have you done or received lately?

I love these Liberty Mutual commercials. We all have the power to pay it forward and make someone's day a little brighter! :)

Leah has been married for a few months, but could not resist slipping into her wedding dress again for a few more bridal shots. She had actually already had her dress cleaned, pressed, and put away in a box! I'm so glad she ripped it open to join us in Savannah.

I love, love, love her hair down.....now if only I could figure out how to make mine curl like that! :)

Rhonda - Bridals

Rhonda is getting married this summer and decided to join in on the fun to have her bridals taken by multiple photographers at once. She was willing to do what ever we asked her to without complaint! Georgia - Bridals

Georgia was shy and reserved when all the photographers and brides met for lunch at Jalapeno's in Savannah last Thursday. However, little did I know she was a complete natural and so much fun in front of the camera! I immediately loved her because she too is a military wife, well soon-to-be anyways! Her husband will be returning from Iraq soon and I boy do I know what those emotions are like. I wanted to take some images that she knew he would love.

All photos were taken at Wormsloe Historic Site, Isle of Hope Bluff, Skidaway Island State Park, River Street, Forsyth Park, and in downtown Savannah. If you've never been to Savannah, I highly recommend that you go. It is a beyond beautiful city.

While in Savannah I met some awesome photographers and I'm so glad to now call them my friends! We weren't able to get any group shots the first day, but we managed to on the second. Here's everyone!

I had an absolute blast in Savannah meeting other photographers and taking bridal portraits. It's great being around people who love to do what I do, and don't get bored talking about all things photography. I'm SO excited to be heading to Savannah tomorrow. A group of us photographers from OSP are getting together to take some awesome photos and network while we're at it. We have a few girls who are going to model in wedding gowns for us throughout the historic city of Savannah. I will be able to post the pictures as soon as I return and have them edited. I second shot my first WEDDING this past weekend! I had such a blast with Jessica Messer in Birmingham and I can't wait for the next wedding on March 29th. I cannot post any pictures until Jessica does, so you'll have to wait. :) I must say that I'm loving wedding photography. I'm a pretty romantic person myself, and I love capturing others in love. I love all the details, the looks the new bride and groom give each other, the nervousness and excitement that I remember feeling on my wedding day, all of it! :)

My new business cards came in the mail yesterday and I could not be more satisfied with them! I designed them myself and had my professional lab print them. They shine because they have a pearl uv coating overlay. The lab also sent me a tootsie roll sucker in my package! How sweet! (no pun intended) :)

We didn't have a lot of time to do a formal photoshoot, so all of these were taken when we stopped to get some barbeque for lunch. If any of you have been to the south, you know that there are bbq joints everywhere! We stopped at Hwy 165 BBQ and it was delicious. :)

Bridal Session - Birmingham, AL

I had such a fun time second shooting a bridal session for Jessica Messer this past Friday in Birmingham! We met for lunch beforehand where I met her friend (who is also a wedding photographer!) Alisa Lynn. Alisa came along to help with the shoot and I'm so glad I was able to get to know her too. The shoot took place at Flower Stems which has a 5,000 sq ft loft where we did most of the session. After we were done there we headed down into the alley and took some pictures on Jessica and Alisa's gorgeous red vintage sofa that they use in their office space. It's all that I can show you because the wedding isn't until April 5th....so this will have to do for now! :)

Change of Command

My husband Tim and his friend Brandon have recently taken command over two separate basic training companies here at Fort Benning. When this occurs there is a formal ceremony representing the leaving of the old commander and the incoming of the new one. Brandon and his wife Kara asked me to tag along and photograph Brandon's ceremony so of course I said yes. Tim's ceremony was a few weeks later and you know I was there camera in hand as well as taking care of the reception that followed. The ceremonies were the same as per military standards, but as you can tell Brandon's took place on a bright sunny day and Tim's on a dreary rainy day. They both made for some great pictures though! While doing a google search for myself (I was trying to see if it would pull up my website - and it does!) I stumbled across a photographer who shares my name. I found it quite interesting so I did some research. Lisette Model was an amazing photographer whose work has been published in P.M. Magazine, Look, The Ladies Home Journal, Vogue, The Saturday Evening Post, Popular Photography, Modern Photography, U. S. Camera, Cosmopolitan to name a few. Her work really inspires me. I love her candid approach to "street photography" and how she found beauty among what others may not consider beautiful. I found it odd that she died in 1983 - the same year that I was born. God keeps showing me that photography is what I am supposed to be doing and for that I'm so thankful! To see a biography of Lisette Model look here and here.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I hope that you get to spend this holiday with the one you love. :) And if there's no one special then treat yourself to something you love to do or buy something you've been wanting for a while. I give you permission! I'm so thankful for this Valentine's Day because last year Tim was in Iraq. I was lucky enough to get a call from him that day and a dozen roses delivered to me that evening. You can all say "awwww!" now. :) It may not seem like much to the average girl, but in that situation it meant a lot. I really did not expect anything, I just wanted him home safely and not thinking of me while he was on missions. But he did anyway! So here's to my valentine - I love you darlin'!

I love fresh flowers. Here's a few shots of ones that are on my kitchen table right now. Of course I took them outside for the first two shots with the pretty blue sky. I love being back on the East coast because it's not cloudy all the time like in Washington!

The Other Side of the Lens

I've been in need of some new pictures of me for my "About Me" section on my website (almost ready!). So yesterday Tim and I finally had some time to squeeze a few shots in about an hour before sunset. I configured the camera settings and then had Tim snap away. Then of course today I did a little photoshop editing on them! haha These are two of my favorites from the impromptu shoot:

Creative Vision

Today while I was getting ready in my bathroom I noticed this beautiful blue light coming through the glass window behind me. I immediately grabbed my camera and took a few shots. This led to me getting a little creative and taking lots of pictures around my house today. Here's what I came up with (all shot in manual mode):

Caught some smoke rising

This is looking down into a wine glass sitting on a wood table

Same glass from the side (notice my hand reflection?)

I decided to add some water and throw in a goldfish cracker. I told you I was getting crazy creative!

My first ever lens flair shot. How neat is this? Now I need to figure out how to do it without a glass reflection.

Really bright kitchen (light coming through window), aperture wide open (4.0), and shutter speed super fast. Result: lit subject with dark surroundings. I figured this out just by playing around with the settings.

And no photo-op is complete without at least one of the critters. Here's Murphy checking out what's going on out the window.

I've found that often when photographing people, I tend to cut in close on the subject. Usually I go in for the waist up. I feel like this gives a more intimate shot of the person or couple. My next project is to work on "taking it all in" rather than getting so close all the time. :) Just a few of the family from Christmas...

Grant & Samantha

Grant and Samantha were an absolute dream to work with! They were willing to do whatever I asked them to. Even taking pictures on Main Street in Wise where in an small town people inevitably stop and stare - or almost wreck their car trying to see what we were doing...haha. I had a blast taking pictures with them, and running between locations and car to warm up. Thank you both for getting in front of my camera and allowing me to capture some of my favorite shots of my career thus far!

Baby Cameron

My cousin Jessica just had a little boy and asked me if I would take some pictures of him for her. I was thrilled because I haven't seen her in a while and I had not yet met little Cameron! He is the first great-grandchild on my mother's side of the family. What a happy baby he was! I have never had a child as young as him (3 months) just stare at the camera. He was locked in on me every time I moved. It made for some beautiful photos. Jessica and Bill: congratulations on your little bundle of joy. I cannot wait to photograph him again!

Mike, Trista, & Alyssa

Mike, Trista, and Alyssa were my first photoshoot when I went home for the holidays. We had a lot of fun and I enjoyed capturing their happy family together. I'm back....finally!

Today I have finally have some time to sit down and post images on my blog! My husband Tim and I have been caught up in a whirlwind of moving and holiday celebrations and I've not had much internet access in the midst of it all. We began our PCS (permanent change of station) from Ft. Lewis to Ft. Benning on December 4th and haven't had much time to breathe since then! We are now settled into our new home and trying to get things organized.

As far as my photography business goes - it is chugging right along and I'm loving every minute of it! We just started my LLC and purchased a beautiful website from Blu Domain. Once I receive the template and get it up and running I will let you all know. I also had a wonderful time with three photoshoots while we were visiting in our hometown of Wise, Virginia. (I'll be posting those images next). I had more lined up but with the holidays schedules get turned around, so I plan on making a few trips home to fit those in!

Second shooting!

Yesterday I had the opportunity to second shoot with an awesome photographer here in Tacoma, WA -Shelley Mauss! On a whim, I emailed Shelley after I found her website on Blu Domain to ask her if I could follow her around and learn a few photography tricks. She enthusiastically offered to let me second shoot for a family that is very dear to her.

This was my first time second shooting and I must admit I was a little nervous! But Shelley and I met up before the family arrived to talk photography and get to know a little about one another which put me at ease. She is so charismatic and just a generally happy person! Not to mention the family we shot - the Brownrices - were so much fun! I just wish we weren't moving this week so I could shoot some more with Shelley. Lighting Workshop Photos

Last Saturday I attended a Portrait Lighting workshop at Abolins in Tacoma, WA. I had fun learning how to direct my subject, posing, and different studio lighting techniques. It was also great to get out and meet other photographers who have the same interests as me! The model is Courtenay and she was very outgoing and took direction well. Taking this class definately got my photography buzz going again and I'm already looking for more classes to take!
